The Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) warns that illicit financial flows pose a major hindrance to Nigeria’s development, including Cross River State. At a two-day capacity-building workshop in Abuja, supported by the EU’s SecFin Africa Project, ANEEJ officials and journalists discussed how corruption, tax evasion, trade misinvoicing, and money laundering drain resources intended for education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The event, held June 25–26, 2026, emphasized rigorous investigative reporting to improve accountability and public awareness for stronger local governance.

Cross River’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Cross River Sector Command has announced a statewide crackdown on traffic offenders, with special patrols slated to begin Monday, June 29, across major highways and urban roads. Led by Sector Commander Innocent Tommy Etuk, the operation will target overloading, driver’s license offenses, fake or obscured number plates, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The exercise aims to reduce road crashes and promote responsible driving, with officers conducting random checks and enforcing penalties where violations are found. Motorists are urged to cooperate, ensure valid licenses, proper number plates, and up-to-date vehicle documents to stay compliant and help safeguard road users across Cross River.

Governor Bassey Otu flags off the South-South Farm Input Support Programme in Calabar as the Federal Government rolls out 80,640 bags of subsidised fertilizer. The Cross River event, held on a Saturday, marks a key step in delivering four bags of fertilizer to each verified farmer across the South-South zone, benefiting about 25,200 farmers in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Edo states. The programme aims to boost productivity, stabilise prices, and reinforce local farming value chains through transparent distribution and state involvement in monitoring.
